This isn't just any 996, it's one of the really early ones, built in 1997 before the official launch in 1998. Porsche made just 14 of these pre-production cars, and mine happens to be one of them. They were basically hand built alongside the 993 before the full production line started in '98 as they needed to get 1 996 to each dealer globally so they had a car to show customers before they ordered
Because of that, it's got a few quirky touches and differences you won't see on later cars, which makes it a pretty special piece of Porsche history. You could say it's a bit of a bridge between the 993 and the 996, carrying the DNA of both eras.
Most people see a 996 and think first water-cooled 911, but this one's rarer again, sitting right at the start of that chapter. It's not just another 911, it's a part of Porsche's evolution story.
