The Original Porsche 550 Spyders, powered by the quad cam 1500 and later 1600 engines, became famous giant killers in sports car racing, with class wins at Le Mans in ’54, ’55, ’56 and 4- 6 overall in ’55, as well as winning many other races against bigger, more powerful cars. In the early 90’s Graham McRae, who had worked with Beck, started producing RHD replicas in NZ.
This 1996 NZ produced car is a one-of-a-kind Replica in that it has a Porsche 2.7 Litre 6 Cylinder Engine with a 915 Porsche 5 speed Gearbox. The chassis is made from chrome moly tubing, riveted to a high-quality solid fibreglass body with as much Porsche 911 running gear as possible. The car weighs 800 KG, so with the air-cooled 2.7 engine, this is a fun and fast “go -cart”.
