The first chassis built in RHD of the new typ924, manufactured Nov ’75.
The class win in this event was the first FIA International victory for a front-engined Porsche of any type
Initially the car was flown to Australia in late 1975 and toured the Australian capital city motor show circuit in early 1976
The car was Retained by Alan Hamilton and eventually was built by Alan Hamilton and the Porsche Factory to FIA homologated Group 4 Rally specification, one of only 4 x 924 Rally cars with FIA Group 4 Homologation papers
1979 Repco Round Australia Rally Factory/Porsche Cars Australia entrant, driven by the Porsche factory engineers Jurgen Barth and Roland Kussmaul, both Le Mans, East Africa Safari, and Dakar veterans.
Entered by Porsche Cars Australia as car number ‘8’ the 924 competed in the Repco Reliability Trial rally of August 1979 over 18,885 kms in 14 days to win it’s class, the 1st International FIA victory for a front engine Porsche.
Barth and Kussmaul are on record as crediting “The Repco” as the hardest and most demanding event they ever contested throughout their careers.
The car's success prompted Jurgen Barth to lobby the Porsche board to further develop the 924 for competition and ultimately led to the development by Barth of the 924 Carrera GT, GTS and GTR road and race programs.
Extensively prepared for the event with a normally aspirated engine, 928 brakes, deal shocks, up-rated and strengthened suspension and underbody, a full roll cage, lightweight windows and interior and many other special mechanical and strengthening features.
Retains it’s original Vic Rego “ANK-727”. Currently undergoing a sympathetic restoration retaining original drivetrain and body originality and patina.
