Theres something particularly special about seeing October 1997 on the build plate of a Porsche 996.

Because this isnt simply an old 996.

Its a car built right at the beginning of one of the most important chapters in Porsche history.

The 996-generation 911 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997, representing the biggest technical change the 911 had experienced since its introduction more than three decades earlier.

And this car was built in October 1997 right at the dawn of that new generation.

For 34 years, the Porsche 911 had been air-cooled. With the 996, that tradition ended.

In its place came Porsches first series-production water-cooled 911, powered by the new 3.4-litre, four-valve flat-six producing around 300 horsepower.
