The 928 has always been one of my hero cars.

Porsche set out to create something very different with the 928. A front-engined V8 grand tourer that could cross continents at speed, in comfort and with a style that still looks like very little else on the road.

This particular car has an interesting story of its own. We�re its fourth custodians, with the latest transfer of stewardship being between two household names in Victorian real estate. Somehow that feels rather fitting for a 928. When these cars were new, successful property people were exactly the sort of clientele Porsche had in mind.

For me though, the story is much more personal.

I�ve wanted a 928 for a very long time. My parents had one for a couple of years when I was born, and it became one of my earliest memories. It�s one of those cars I�d built up in my head over the years, which always carries the risk that finally owning one won�t quite live up to the dream.

Thankfully, this one has.

Even just seeing the keys makes me light up. Walking up to it, looking back at it or getting behind the wheel puts a smile on my face from ear to ear that�s pretty hard to wipe off. It has presence, character and that wonderful sense of occasion I always hoped a 928 would have.

Sometimes meeting your heroes works out rather well.
