This Porsche 968 CS (Club Sport) is one of the two black cars converted to a 968 Turbo RS by Fitzgerald Racing in the mid 1990's.
3.0L 4cyl 8v SOHC, K27 turbocharger, up to 260kW/350HP, 500Nm, 0-100km 4.5s
Only four 968 Turbo RS were ever built by Porsche Motorsport (Germany) from 1992 to 1994. All were LHD. One red, one yellow, one white, one black.
Fitzgerald Racing Services (Australia) built four more in RHD from 1994 to 1996. One white, one red, two black.
All eight cars were converted from a 968 CS (Club Sport) having the rear mounted Getrag 6 speed manual transmission.
Fitzgerald Racing were the only privateer team to have such support from Porsche Motorsport, being supplied parts and technical assistance for the conversion.
Peter Fitzgerald had successfully raced a 944 Turbo and then a 968 with support of Porsche Australia, alongside Jim Richards also in a 968. Peter's white 968 was the first conversion to Turbo RS and adorned the green and blue Falken livery.
Like the German builds, no two are exactly the same, they were tweeked to the original owner's needs and/or race team requirements at the time.
By reversing some modifications, they could be registered for the road.
A few were raced successfully in Australia at events such as Targa Tasmania, Targa West, Dutton Rally and Porsche Club track days in VIC and WA.
Three of these cars were in the 1996 Targa Tasmania - a sight to see indeed!
