Orange

The first race car that herb liqueur manufacturer Jägermeister sponsored, was a Porsche 914-6 GT, car no 78.

The first vehicle was painted in a dark green like their bottles, but in the words of company boss Gunter Mast the colour was deemed “not eye-catching enough”. It was then decided to paint the car Orange like the brands logo and the rest as they say in the classics was history. The first Jägermeister race car was driven by Gerd Quist and Dietrich Krumm and participated in Le mans, the 1000km of Spa and the 1000 kilometre of Nürburgring.

The race car that appears today is a replica of the legendary car no 78. It differs in mechanical specifications in so far as the original car had a 2 litre engine, whilst the replica runs a 3.0 Carrera motor fed by two banks of weber IDA 46 carburettors developing 280 plus horsepower.

The car has a 5-speed 915 gearbox linked to a LSD differential. Like no 78 ,the car has Bilstein dampers, five-hole Fuchs rims in 8- and 9-inch width. The car weighs approximately 850kg.

The car was acquired by Melbourne based (ex-South African Touring Car and Group N Endurance Champion) Clive Massel. It was painstakingly rebuilt by Porsche specialist Louie Giosis of Motion Automotive.
