Porsche's 924 Carrera GT - A true road - going race car !

First shown to the public as a design study at the 1979 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 924 Carrera GT was built to be raced.

In the 1980 Le Mans 24-Hour Race, Porsche entered three 924 Carrera GT's with the cars finishing in 6th, 12th and 13th positions in the general classification, after which they then went on to build a further 400 production cars to satisfy the FISA homologation requirements for admission into the Group B Sports
Car Category.

Peter Brock, Jim Richards and Colin Bond were entered in the 1981 Le Mans 24 Hour Race in a factory-built and prepared 924 Carrera GTR, but failed to qualify after encountering technical difficulties.

Porsche, who's exceptional standards in Engineering excellence can be traced directly from their Race Cars to their Road Cars, saw the creation of the road going 924 Carrera GT as literally a detuned race car.
Make no mistake, this is a seriously quick motorcar, built for serious drivers, and truly reflecting its racing parentage, as well as being a vehicle that provides a very interesting insight into Porsche's development philosophy.

Of the 406 cars built, 200 went to Germany, 75 to the UK, and 131 to the Rest of the World, however considered by US Regulators to be too fast, none were ever supplied to the USA. The 924 Carrera GT was only available in Red, Silver or Black, this car is one of only 15 imported into Australia, and the only one finished in Black

Bought new by the existing owner in April 1981, and campaigned competitively within the Porsche Club of Victoria, for some 5 years, the car is the holder of both State and National Concours Trophy's, and during 1982 & 1983 held Class Lap Records at both Winton and Phillip Island, the car was then sold, and was repurchased in July 2002.

Its looks alone are enough to set the adrenalin running ………………..
